Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). It is a glycoprotein, consisting of the alpha and the beta subunit. TSH serves as a sensitive and specific biomarker for evaluating thyroid function. It is a useful marker for monitoring patients under substitution therapy.
